Light & Dark is a small game created for a 24 hour game jam at the University of Bolton. The jam took place over the 4-5th March 2020. All concepts, assets and gameplay programming were created by me.
For the theme of light and dark, I wanted to create a game where the gameplay involved shadows. The player is placed in a series of rooms that contain some objects and lights. There is a guide on the wall where the player must use the lights to create a shadow in the same shape and size. The light can be picked up and moved around and the angle it points at can be adjusted. Rather than measure the actual illumination of the wall, the game uses raycasts from the light to determine whether a point is in shadow. Using a number of these raycasts it checks whether the player’s shadow closely resembles the guide.
Light and dark was created using Unreal Engine 4. Assets were created using Maya and Substance Designer.
